The Music Lesson

Group Six Films is currently in development on the feature adaptation of the New York Times Notable Book of the Year The Music Lesson, written by acclaimed novelist Katharine Weber.

"The Music Lesson is far from your everyday, action-packed IRA saga. Instead, Katharine Weber's second novel is very much like the intimate portrait her heroine so lovingly describes--an exquisite miniature in which images, ideas, and deep emotions keep coming out of the woodwork." -- Kerry Fried, Newsday

"The Music Lesson is very moving, at times terrifying, and throughout entirely gripping. A really important novel..." -- Dame Muriel Spark

Film Synopsis

Patricia Dolan is a 41-year-old art historian who works at the Frick Collection in New York City. She leads a lonely existence, grieving the tragic death of her daughter 4 years ago and the destruction of what was once the perfect marriage. She is an Irish-American, having grown up with a father and grandfather, both Boston cops, who throughout her childhood sang of fallen heroes, the Troubles, and the dawn of a new Ireland. But it's not until now that she will truly feel the gritty roots of her ancestors.

After her heart is awakened by a mysterious 25-year-old Irishman, she gets drawn into a sordid affair, and an international art heist. She soon finds herself in a remote cottage in West Cork, Ireland -- but she is not alone: she has a unique oil-on-wood Vermeer as company. And her grief is allowed to resurface.

For Patrica, this painting of a girl and a piano is beyond priceless. For her, the subjects' gaze is one of both solace and sorrow, and holds the key to freeing Patricia's heart. Before blood is spilt, and her lover returns, will she learn the lesson of The Music Lesson?
